“With life?  We’re not built to master it all at once.  Instead, we are built to trust God with it all. So, take each day and each moment, one step at a time. That's it!”

Mariann W. Shaw

On September 18th, 2012, I stepped into a unique motherhood that told me when to hold, touch, bond, and nurse my baby.  Due to preeclampsia, my son was born at 28 weeks (2 pounds and 10 ounces).  This experience completely changed my perspective with the term “fight”.   My son taught me how to soar in the midst of adversity and tribulation.  He taught me how to smile when there was pain and uncertainty.  He taught me how to fight.  From that journey, I chose to look at our testimony differently and embraced it.

God gave me a gift that ministered to me. 💜 The Bible says, “And we know that all things work together for good for those who love God, who are called according to his purpose.”  (Romans 8:28 NET)  You may ask, “How did that work for your good?”  I learned through this NICU Journey that your response to life is very important.  How you respond to a situation can determine the outcome.  Instead of looking at the task negativity, fight to look at it positively.  You're watching a miracle transform before you!  Be grateful for every moment and find the strength to embrace the gift God has given you.

During this season of my life, I was unemployed, limited in every area of my life.  Each trip to the hospital was a miracle.  When my son and I were finally discharged, I remember thinking, "I know what it's like, and I don't want anyone to feel alone.  I can only imagine what others are experiencing."   So, through our neonatal journey, I became the Founder/CEO of Maison Alexander Support Group Inc. My nonprofit organization specializes in assisting neonatal families in need during their time in the NICU.

I know first hand the journey can be overwhelming.  But please know, there's no rule that says you have to conquer it all within one setting.  You don't have to be perfect.  You don't have to know it all.  There is no law that demands your presences in three different places all at once.  Just take each day, each step, and each moment -- one step at a time.  And with each step know that God is with you.  He sees your situation and He hears your prayers. With this light altering experience, my friend, you are not alone.  You will get through this.

With love,

Mariann W. Shaw
